Desert Hills is a coveted suburb in the Valley of the Sun that boasts the incomparable tranquility of the countryside. It is located away from the hustle and bustle of the Greater Phoenix area’s urban centers. You can enjoy unadulterated relaxation here after a productive day in the city.

Part of the New River census-designated place (CDP) in Maricopa County, Desert Hills is an unincorporated community located approximately 30 miles north of Downtown Phoenix.

This community occupies a 4.31-square-mile area forming the western boundary of Cave Creek and the southern boundary of Anthem. It is easily accessible via the Interstate 17 and Arizona State Route 74 (Carefree Highway) thoroughfares.

Desert Hills is a relatively young community. It was developed only in the mid-1950s, spearheaded by the Lee Ackerman Investment Company of Phoenix. This area used to be an undeveloped expanse of desert – no electricity, water, or any form of habitable home sites. An aggressive marketing and affordable purchase terms led to the sale of several five- to 10-acre parcels of land in the area.

Buyers from those early years who saw the Desert Hills land as long-term investments are now reaping the rewards. Desert Hills today is an attractive residential retreat just outside Metro Phoenix.

    Take your RV and camping gear to this 21,099-acre paradise located in the lower Verde River basin. There are 76 camping sites with water and electric utilities, barbecue areas, and full-featured restrooms and showers.
  • Lake Pleasant Regional Park
    This is your best bet for beating the heat in the Valley of the Sun. The reservoir and its surrounding campgrounds are  great for camping, hiking, boating, fishing, and swimming.
  • Tonto National Forest
    This is a must-visit natural attraction in the Greater Phoenix area. Spanning 2.9 million acres, Tonto National Forest is the biggest protected forest expanse in Arizona and the fifth largest in the United States.
